Het Paradijs van de Arbeider:
Tuindorpen en Tuinsteden
Published in conjunction with the 2024 exhibition of the same name, Het Paradijs van de Arbeider: Tuindorpen en Tuinsteden is a historical overview of the Garden City movement, its influences and its legacy. The exhibition can be viewed in Museum Het Schip from 11 October 2024 until 27 July 2025.
Working closely together with writers, editors and printers, I was responsible for the graphic design of the book in its entirety. The briefing demanded a colourful and cheerful design to represent the natural beauty of the greenery that Garden Cities typically inhabit. As such, I mostly took inspiration from the bright colours of garden flowers and various tints of green from 'neighbourhood greenery'.
Simultaneously, I aimed to anchor the graphic design within styles typical of early 20th-century modernism; a period that much of the design surrounding Museum Het Schip is inspired by. One example of this is the font choice.
